It’s the mega day today! Ganesha is back with a bang!
Ganpatti Bappa Mourya!!! Happy Ganesh Chathurti!!!
From good old times, it is said, offering prayers to Ganesha is the most important and auspicious thing before starting anything good and important.
Ganesha is also called Gajanan because he wears a head of a Gaj meaning the head of an elephant!
We all know that Lord Shiva, cut threw his son’s head and then Ganesha got the head of an elephant. But ever wondered where is that head which was cut and thrown by Shiva.
There are two symbolic things which are said about Ganesha’s birth and the head,
First says, that when Ganesha was born, all the Gods along with Surya dev, showered blessings at Ganesha and also came the Shani Dev who was shaapit (cursed) that wherever he will be, there can’t be anything good. So, as soon as Shani Dev saw Ganesha, his head went to the chandramandal.
Second says, that Ganesha came into existence because Goddess Parvati made his swarup with dirt of her body, one fine day Parvati was bathing and had asked Ganesha to guard the gate, on the arrival of Lord Shiva, when Ganesha didn’t allow him to enter, Shiva in all his anger furiously cut down his head, and it is said that it went to Chandra lok.
So, it is said that Ganesha’s head is in Chandramadnal, which is why looking at the moon and praying to the Chandra is considered very auspicious on this day!
