8 RIGHTS YOU HAVE AS AN INDIAN, BUT PROBABLY DON’T KNOW
“At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom.” It has been 70 years, since Jawaharlal Nehru announced the dawn of the ‘free’ India to the world. We are sure he, along with all other leaders of eminence with him, had a dream for the country and a high place where they had wished to see it reach. Today, 70 years later, let us ask ourselves a candid question- Are we there, yet? Are we even half-way there? A quarter of the way, maybe? The honest-to-god answer can only be a big, doleful NO.
It can be really depressing at times, when one sees the laws being so blatantly broken by each and sundry- at times, even by those who are responsible for making and/or implementing them. The simple question that arises here is, who is responsible for the mess that we are in. The answer is equally simple too; it’s we, ourselves. Don’t agree with us? Okay, answer this- do you know all your rights that the Indian constitution gives you? Of course, you don’t; in fact, most of us don’t. Maybe, it’s not even possible to know them all, given the complexity and intricacy of our constitution. But then again, it is not only beneficial, but empowering too to know at least your basic rights.
We are giving a list below, with some of those basic rights that every citizen of the country should know and exercise, if and when the need arises.
Know your rights, be an informed citizen.
