8 REASONS WHY DRINKING WINE IS ACTUALLY BETTER FOR YOU THAN ABSTAINING
People, especially those from the eastern part of the globe, often keep wine in the same bracket as all other alcoholic drinks. Well, let me tell you this; nothing can be farther away from the truth. Wine is not just another alcoholic drink. Come on, there has to be a reason why it’s often referred to as the ‘nectar of God’, and why the great Greek philosopher, Plato famously said that wine is the greatest and the most valuable gift God has given to man. DO you really want to contradict Plato? We thought not.
Now- as if you really needed it- we give below eight healthy reasons, which will prove that drinking wine is better for your health than not.
Wine is known to:
1) PREVENT LIVER RELATED AILMENTS:
This might come as a surprise to many, but the alcohol-hating liver is actually a dear friend of your wine. It so turns out that drinking wine could actually reduce the risk of non-alcoholic fatty-liver disease by almost 50%. Time to bring out that red, we think. What say?
2) ABOLISH BAD CHOLESTROL:
It has been proven, that too time and again, that red wine is an excellent source of the world’s best known antioxidant, resveratrol. These are the dudes responsible for banishing your Low Density Lipids (the bad guys), and increasing your High Density Lipids (the good Samaritans). In basic language, this means goodbye cardiovascular (read: heart) diseases, forever. Where’s that bottle of red?
3) HELP IN WEIGHT LOSS:
Studies have shown that daily wine drinkers (in moderation, of course) have less abdominal fat, narrower waist, and lesser BMI, as compared to daily alcohol drinkers. Somehow, we always suspected that. Wine actually, has a certain gene that hinders the growth of new fat cells. Hmm!
4) IMPROVE COGNITIVE FUNCTIONING:
It’s our dear friend, resveratrol once again. It, along with a few other of his friends of the antioxidant family balances your body’s inflammatory process, reduces the risk of any arterial hardening, thus ensuring that your brain is properly oxidized. This is vital in keeping ailments like dementia and Alzheimer’s at bay. Are you gonna bring out that bottle anytime today or what?
5) HELP FIGHT DEPRESSION:
Ever heard of endorphin and/or serotonin? Apparently, these are the thingys responsible for making you feel happy and content, hence healthy. No, they have got nothing to do whatsoever, with Santa Claus. Enter the good, old, resveratrol (Gosh! I love this little devil). It lowers the secretion of cortisol, and improves your happy enzymes so that you can fight better with all that stress and depression.
6) HELP FIGHT PROSTRATE & BREAST CANCER:
Prostrate cancer in men and Breast cancer in women, are two of the deadliest silent killers, for it is often too late a stage when these end up getting detected. Fret not, for the wine is here. What does it do, you ask? Well, it slows down the growth of those cells drastically, by balancing the levels of oestrogen and testosterone, and wards off oral cancer. Take a wild guess, who does that? Yup, our friend, resveratrol (I’m in love with it already), along with flavonoids.
7) KEEP YOU BATTLE-READY OVERALL:
Another one of those fancily named dudes, Polyphenols are responsible for fighting against harmful bacteria in your body- you know the ones who shouldn’t be there, according to the body’s immune system. Apparently, these blokes are found in abundance in wine. They, ultimately, help you fight against that army of bacteria that’s there to screw your happiness. Get the gist, right? Where T.F. Is that bottle of the red anyway, dude?
8) IMPROVE LUNG FUNCTION:
As always, we have saved the best for the last. Now, if you are one of those residing anywhere near the north part of India, you would jump up to get that bottle of wine right away. Because, four letters- S, M, O, G. You know what we mean, right. The whole northern part of the country is struggling to take breath, without coughing right now; and who suffers the most? Why, the lungs of course! Enter…wait for it…wait for it… WINE. What else did you think? Both, red and its cousin the white are known to help fight respiratory disorders, improve lung function, and hence fight lung cancer.
HAPPY WINING, dudes and dudettes!!
