Color Me Rainbow

Every year, during the last week of March, when most of us are struggling to juggle our investments in order to save some taxes, some 20,000 odd females from around the globe head to Palm Spring, California. Why, you ask? Well, not much, just for 5 days of debauchery.

Yes, you read that right; it says debauchery. Trust me, there is no better way to describe those 5 days of ‘Dinah Shore Weekend Festival’-the largest festival in the world catering to the lesbian community- where active lesbians, experimenters, and curious wonderers gather together to ‘have some fun’; and have fun they do.

It is estimated that almost 50% of the population of Palm Spring is gay, and stakes claim for the highest per capita gay population in the world. What better place then, to hold the lesbian festival? According to the openly-gay Mayor of Palm Springs, ‘The city is experiencing a terrific renaissance and Dinah Shore Weekend has been a huge economic driver. We owe a great deal of debt to the LGBT community for helping Palm Spring evolve into the ultra-cool, stylish, and sophisticated city it is today’.

Now in its 26th year, The Dinah, has grown to become a destination-of-choice, not only for big name sponsors, but also for performers like Lady GaGa, Katy Perry, SmanathaRonson, and Pussy Cat Dolls.

Apparently, the founder, Dinah Shore was a straight woman. She founded the Dinah Shore festival, as a golfing event, and sure would have turned in her grave upon knowing what all her name is being associated with today. Well, to each his own; or in this case, her own.

It being a ladies-only event- although a few men could be spotted too, but they are primarily hotel staff- the visitors can truly let their hair down, and do what they want, how they want, when they want, and with whoever they want, of course consent is a given.

According to Mariah Hanson, the conceptualizer of the modern version of The Dinah, ‘There’ll always be need for gay people to come together and congregate. Our culture is unique. The Dinah is and always will be five days of incredibly magical celebration of our lives’.

Music, Entertainment, Sun, Booze, Dance, and a lot of debauchery. These girls are LIVING… to the hilt.
